You do realize that attendings ,nursing staff etc., and the hospitail have limited resources, right? Getting an OR room may not have this constant availability you think there is. The same for life saving equipment. They can be occuppied and if so, where do you provide interventions? Where do assign sparse resources? People want to bring malpractice lawsuits at the drop of the hat. which makes many OB-GYN carry insurance that cost over 1/4 million a year.
Some children are born who have limited viability. Some need immediate, extensive, time-consuming medical interventions that most would be predicted not to survive. Even if the did, the deformities they posses may lead to 0 quality of life. Can you provide every intervention ideally on every patient? Let your common sense answer that.
Decisions on who lives or dies happen daily for all age ranges. Are you that naive to think this isn't so? Do you think a 85 year old can get a heart transplant as readilty as a 25 yr old? Failure to get a new heart, kidney, etc.may be consigning a person to death. Do you give chemo to a frail 75 year old? The decisions are complicated. Alcoholics active in their disease, don't get new livers. It's just another medical decision that effects life span,
This is a complicated issue and you're simplistic appraoch is just offensive. Not everyone can get everything. People who have DNRs are made comfortable. If it's infants, the same applies. There are places where abortions can be performed within a legal time span. Though personally, IMO abortion should not be used as birth control, and after a perscribed time frame has expired, for no reason, the law of the land will dictate practice. There is no place I'm aware of that kills something that could survive outside the womb, or late in the pregnancy. Balance this reality with the limited resource fact. Any place that does this, should face the full legal consequences.
Making patients of any age comfortable, while making medical decisions happens.
