My guess is this is not his first brush with the law or with violent acts in school and elsewhere. But those won’t matter.
A lawyer will write a note of apology, he will‘s stammer through it with all the phony baloney contrition of a cornered criminal and be reinstated after a two day period of in school suspension. Or something.
He won’t go to prison until a few years from now, when he kills someone.
