The Dems could probably nominate a ham sandwich or a bottle cap and beat Trump in 2020. If Schultz runs as an independent, many Dems think Schultz would split the Anti-Trump vote and give Trump another unlikely victory.

Personally, I don't think it's that clear. I think Schultz might solidify the anti-rich guy vote and give Dems a boost. In any case, Scultz apparently would pull out if there's no clear path for him to 270, so it's likely no big deal.
