prosecute people. Defense attorneys have one job, defend their clients. Even though it is an adversarial system prosecutors are actually supposed to see that justice is done. Which SHOULD include dropping charges if evidence comes out exonerating a suspect.
But if they have started the process many look at that as a loss so many would rather convict the wrong guy instead of letting an innocent man walk free.
At a minimum prosecutorial misconduct should result in that person losing his license to practice law. But we have the same problem here as is found in the medical field. Those making the decisions are the same as those that are being judged. They are more interested in protecting their own than protecting the rest of us.
