little things to be outraged over.

And Gillette released the ad because they knew exactly what would happen. They saw what happened with Nike's revenue when they backed Kaepernick and they wanted something similar to happen for them. They know that the number of people who truly boycott them would be small and the number of people who would find the stand appealing and purchase one of their products is higher. A company like P&G isn't going to release an ad like that without having done tons of research into what effect it will have.
