I see a head coach as the "Boss". He has many roles.

Foremost is surrounding himself with a good team of assistants. If you have a HC that tries to do every detail himself, it is not going to work. The HC is the image (focal point) of the team and that role is very important. I think HCM has that. That is important for recruiting which I feel he is doing well, but needs to keep improving. Winning very visible games would help with recruiting as well as getting some players through the program that go on to good NBA careers. Top recruits don't go to kU because of the beauty of the area or even HCS. They go because they will compete with Duke, Mich St. etc on national games and think they will go to the Regionals and Final Four, plus they see many former players in the NBA. That takes time. Sorry I side tracked there.
Assistants are responsible for most things that get done, the Head Couch oversees and makes the final decisions. This is IMHO.
