Should current
model progs pan out, would expect several inches of snow region-
wide by Saturday afternoon. Further complicating the impacts of
this system is a very tight low level pressure gradient on the
back side of the departing low. Sustained winds within the tight
surface pressure gradient should range between 25 and 30 mph
Saturday. Low level winds just off the surface could range between
40 and 50 mph, and given some steep near surface lapse rates these
40-50 mph winds could transfer down to the surface at times,
causing wind gusts approaching 40 to 50 mph on Saturday. It`s
unclear at this point whether those strong winds will coincide
with the heaviest snow, but given the looks of things at this
point there does appear to be a period on Saturday where moderate
to heavy snow will coincide with these 30 to 50 mph winds, causing
near white-out conditions across much of the area Saturday.
Confidence in this high-impact forecast is growing, however with
the event still 3-4 days out there is still plenty of uncertainty
to approach the event with some caution.
