Yes a roster of 29 is a lot, and thats largely because of recruiting decisions made by EE. But that's neither here nor there. It's actually 28 for the 2019 season, since Judge isn't eligible until 2020.
So we now have 6 pitchers for 2019, with Norman, Daniel, and Scates, the returning players, as the top 3 going into the season. Plus 3 transfers who Coach LA brought in at the last minute to try and shore up the worst pitching staff in the SEC, another parting gift from EE. Those are the facts.
Baumgartner leaving the team won't alter the 2019 situation in any appreciable way. She was lightly recruited out of high school, to put it mildly, and peaked in her freshman season where she showed some promise as a 3 or 4 on a staff. And then failed to improve in any way over the next two years. And was in and out of the doghouse with multiple coaches, for behavior issues.
Could there be other players who drop out in the next 2 months before the season starts? Maybe, maybe not. If there are it will be minimal. We are now at 6 pitchers and 22 position players.
Baumgartner not being here won't change a thing.
