turning back (and this is the actual language ABC news used which was shocking) "after they found out the border was more secure than they realized and they would not be able to enter illegally" and "many grew frustrated that the wait would be at least weeks before asylum cases would be heard so they turned to Mexican authorities and asked to be taken back to their homes"

i guess the imminent danger they were facing at home was so bad that they were ok going back in lieu of waiting a few weeks.
