Ten Observations From Arkansas Game...

1. Lock has really stepped up his game in recent weeks. As has been noted all season, his feet are a weapon that should be utilized, especially in goal to go situations. I'd also like to see them use the threat of his running to safety valve underneath to the TE.
2. Defense absolutely mangled Arkansas. The most telling moment to me was they were up 38-0 late and were still gang tackling. That type of motivation can only be instilled through coaching and leadership among the players and that is maybe the best thing Odom has given this program so far. Great to see.
3. The defensive line is finally getting some sacks. They've been getting hurries all season, but yesterday was a throw back to some of those dominant defensive lines in 2013-2015 that would just physically dominant the line of scrimmage. Again, better late than never since it's been puzzling all season given their personnel and depth.
4. Offensive line also dominated the Razorback defense at the line of scrimmage. Opened a lot of lanes for Rountree and Badie. That kind of consistent play, given that they really don't have a superstar among them, is a lot about effort and fundamentals. Again that's coaching.
5. We saw (again) the effect that Hall has on defenses. Even in the rain he got consistent separation. The good thing about him is that he feels he still has something to prove, so I expect him to show big in the bowl game, wherever that may be. There's not a defense in the country that has an answer for him.
6. I was actually kind of thankful for the rain in the sense that it helped camouflage what I expected to be a poor turnout for this game. The Razorbacks are not very good, it's a manufactured rivalry (at least in football so far), it's cold, school's out and it's the day after Fat Pants. I'm not sure how you solve this problem attendance wise for this game.
7. The other Hall, Terez Hall, also continues to have a great season. He showed well in front of NFL scouts yesterday with that pick and the sack. He's got the size and speed that should serve him well as a next level LB.
8. Odom is safely off the hot seat with an eight win season, but I would feel much better if Mizzou won their bowl game and finished 9-4. Because we know that's really a ten win season between the UK loss and the South Carolina loss.
9. You could argue that the only teams better than Mizzou on their schedule this year were 'Bama and UGA. Not sure about you, but realistically that's a pretty good goal year to year...but...
10. With the talent explosion over the last decade or so (especially the last five years) in STL, if Odom can lock down most of those recruits, we could compete every year for the SEC East. I truly believe that. STL talent alone won't cut it, but I like how Odom is not putting all of his eggs in the Texas basket but still realizing that Mizzou's success in the past is in large part due to successful recruiting in the Lone Star state. You should recruit out of state where you can gather the best talent. That continues to be Texas.
