Frank Broyles wanted Arkansas out of the SWC. The SEC wanted in the Texas media market. Broyles assured SEC officials that if Arkansas joined the SEC then Texas A&M would too. That did not happen so we took South Carolina to balance out everything.

When Texas A&M finally did ask to join the SEC everyone, and I do mean everyone, thought that Virginia Tech would too. However, VT had just spent a ton of political capital to get into the ACC and was pretty much stuck there for the foreseeable future. Again the conference needed balance so Mizzou received an invitation.

Sorry, Mizzou, but that is how it all happened. Your AAU membership had utterly nothing to do with it.
