Smith was really bad last year and we all wanted him to be good. Statistically, the worst player in the Big Ten who played rotation minutes. Trent Frazier totally outplayed him after coming in with less fanfare. No doubt there was jealousy in the Smith family. Mark is a really nice kid but he had to listen to family tell him different things than the coach did.
It had nothing to do with Illinois. Underwood’s offense is a dream for guards. The combination of high expectations, loss of confidence and his dad’s incessant *****ing did him in. I think he would have had a good sophomore year at Illinois....off the bench. No way he beats out Frazier, Ayo or Feliz. But he would have been a good sixth man. Trouble is his dad wouldn’t have stood for it.
He will have a nice career at Missouri as long as Dad doesn’t demand that he be the point guard. He needs to be off the ball spotting up for threes with an occasional drive.
