Some families have genetic weakness in areas of the body. My family members (all athletes) have all experienced injuries around the ball and socket areas of our body (shoulders and hips), all requiring surgery. Doctors have told us that there are small, abnormal formations within the shape of the "ball" area (causing a lack of flexibility and leading the area to be injury prone). While the Porters have been blessed with some good genetics, there is likely some physical characteristic that leads them to be injury prone. Couple that with the science that does show that a low protein diet statistically opens the door for some types of injuries leads me to believe that this is an unfortunate double whammy for the family.
