Would suggest that if one looks at the blue blood programs in college football, I.e. Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan State has in the B1G; Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU in the SEC; Texas & OU in the Big 12; USC and Washington in the PAC 12; and Miami, Florida State & Clemson in the ACC. If u want to delete one or more of these schools and add others, that’s fine, the one common denominator is they generally have had abundant resources. Typically, they have been the biggest programs in their conferences. Resources have allowed them to hire top coaches, build facilities, recruit more widely, etc. And the result is they’ve enjoyed a very high level of success for a long time, Admittedly, some have had “down periods”, but I would suggest the blue blood programs have been a remarkably stable group for a long time. And the one thing that has allowed them to remain blue blood programs is their ability to generate resources.

Then take the case of Phil Knight. What was Oregon before he started contributing to the program? Two hundred plus million dollars will do wonders for a program. And bear in mind that Knight has given Stanford, he has a Stanford MBA, over 150 million.

So I would suggest if you want really good Tiger football, stop worrying about who the coach is or will be and start thinking about how you generate more resources, the dollars to hire your high profile coach, high quality assistants, build and renovate facilities, expand recruiting, add more support staff, etc.

I understand that Clemson’s re-emergence as a national player coincides with its development of a comprehensive donor program targeting relatively small donors. Apparently, it doesn’thave A Phil Knight.

And as far as replacing Barry Odom with a high profile coach, look at Alabama. If memory serves David Shula was fired and it hired Nick Savanna (prior stood at Michigan State, LSU and the Dolphins. I suspect Alabama’s ability to pay well coupled with it’s ability to give Savanna all the bells and whistles he wanted was no small factor in his decision. Without I ‘s ability to generate resources would Bama have landed Savanna.

And a more recent example to reflect on is Jimbo Fisher’s move from Florida State to aTm.
