As for the landslide - that was one comment made following the conventions - my consistent prediction was a close finish with a Clinton win. I saw Trump as a clown then and see him as one now. His power to dominate the media does astound. NO MAN could tell that many lies that many times and continue to do so without being called on it. On a deeper and potentially more dangerous level he has created a post-Truth world. I don't know where that leads.
His win was a freak outlier. Trump needed mostly all of those 70,000 votes over three states. He has lost 15-20% of the support he had at election. You win with 70,000 vote - you can't afford that decrease. And your line that the same who supported him then support him now - doesn't hold with a 15-20% drop. Though you are correct in comment on importance of districts.
