Their best bet would be to move on from this debacle as quickly as possible.
They really think they have a winning hand here but the only ones motivated by their tactics were already firmly in their pocket and motivated to vote. All they have done with this is energized conservatives and turned off moderates. This was the political equivalent of invading Russia in the winter.
