The Kavanaugh confirmation was already locked in evidence wise. We know the preponderance of the evidence was against Kavanaugh.
Given that only Ford and Kavanaugh were going to testify means
that the only thing to be determined was credibility. Ford came off as being very credible, I haven't seen anyone say otherwise. The knock
being that "something happened, someone assaulted her, but we can't be sure who". Well if she is a credible witness then the fact that she said she
was 100% certain its him is part of that credibility.
Kavanaugh on the other hand fared quite poorly. Overall he was emotional , evasive and dodgy. Particularly in regards to an FBI investigation.
"I'll do whatever the committee wants (knowing they don't/didn't want) .
He was incorrect about two things. He said the other three witnesses REFUTED Ford. They did no such thing- and any judge knows better.
Knows better. True they did not corroborate her, but they didn't come close to refuting. Second he said the other witnesses signed statements
under threat of committing a felony. I'm not sure about two of them but Mark Judge( the key witness did not and quite glaringly missing) had his lawyer submit
a letter. Speaking of Mark Judge did you notice that Kavanaugh said they were friends and then started to elaborate, then caught himself and threw Judge under a bus about his addiction problems?
Kavanaugh out and out lied about three things- boofing, devils triangle and Renate Alumnus. Particularly distasteful was how he acted all offended that
dems would bring her into this when he is the one that bragged about banging her. (Which turns out to be yet another lie in itself). A poem in that yearbook from another alumni
so you need a date/ and its getting late/ so don't hesitate/ and call Renate. And that's assuming he didn't commit the assault- a bad bet.
An FBI investigation would go back and interview people from his high school about the meaning of those phrases and we'll see how many are willing to lie about it like good ol Brett. But that won't happen because the republicans are uninterested in facts or decency.
Also the whole laughing off of the High School yearbook thing was itself laughable because the assault happened during that time frame, hence
saying it was just foolish High School hijinks is a dog that don't hunt.
I'm pretty sure how Kavanaugh has justified himself. He, Brett Kavanaugh, of so many academic and athletic achievements and so many supportive friends, would never do horrible things like assault women, but it was the alcohol, not Brett Kavanaugh that did it. That is common among addicts/alcoholics.
The republicans generally acted poorly, particularly the incredibly hypocritical Lindsey Graham. I think they did however make two good points. One is the holding of this evidence (which Feinstein"s explanation while plausible doesn't hold water) the second was that the democrats want to delay the vote. of course they do, its their best play.
But naturally republicans come off as massively hypocritical due to the Garland situation.
So Kavanaugh is unfit to be on the Supreme Court, mostly due to his extreme non Constitutional views (pro torture pro President unrestrained by laws- which fit a high school
assaulter mentality). But also because he almost certainly assaulted Ford. and because he is a partisan hack willing to say and do anything -itself a dangerous position for a legislating from the bench judge that republicans are hoping for.
The singing and dancing of our republigistian friends just proves how whacked out this country is, in lieu of facts simply inject more partisan hackyness and
conspiracy theory drooling.
He will probably pass the committee and also the Senate. Woe is we.
