He was offered a full scholarship to his home state school during the only coaching administration since the mid-1960’s when such a thing could have been remotely conceivable. He would normally have been a walk-on at any major conference team over the last 50 years.
To make matters worse, his coaching staff had no concept of Division I talent and hyped him as a sensational spot-up three point specialist, which he was not (and probably wouldn’t even have been on a D2 team.)
That said, he fought like hell usually, even as the staff destroyed his confidence by placing him in situations where he couldn’t possibly succeed. He had moments as a defender somehow, particularly against Kevin Knox last season under Cuonzo.
Bag on the coach, not the kid. I wonder if he can get over the injury, he might be able to play somewhere like Columbia College his final season of eligibility?
