He was lazy but by no means stupid. Reagan was just simplistic in his world view but was gifted in both politics and public speaking. Obama gifted in eloquence and a very smart guy. He was timid, that was his weakness. He thought making 3-5 yard gains every once in a while was enough and he foolishly, naively believed GOP Congress would work with if by doing so they could solve problems.

Trump is way the fck out of his league. He has no clue and little to zero interest in serving anyone but himself.
