Would suggest the most long term and telling line in the article is the "failure of the 'liberal' party" and by that I'm not suggesting a failure by the Democrats, but a larger failure by the American liberal progressive (lower case "l" and "p") movement, a movement that arose following WWII, crosses party lines and is largely endorsed and adopted by both to convince a large segment of the nation that the "liberal progressive" view of America is leading to a better life for themselves and their children and the future will be better. Trump was elected and remains popular in no small part because he represents a rejection of that "liberal progressive" view.
