let me ask the question another way.

The police say he fired at them and they release video to support that claim. As a layperson, what am I supposed to be looking for and/or listening for to demonstrate he fired the gun at them?

I see the gun in his hands, and I hear shots, but those shots seem to coincide with a red mist coming from his shoulder.
