Crop insurance under the revenue option would provide a per acre guarantee for the current crop season. Premiums, including subsidized premiums adjust according to the level of coverage selected. However, crop insurance does not provide a safety net for stored grain inventories. In a typical scenario farmers holding onto last year's crop (stored on farm in bins) into the spring hoping for higher prices got hammered by the tariff war. Particularly, if the grain was unpriced. Most farmers hold onto their grain for months waiting for more favorable prices. The tariffs and resulting steep price declines destroyed that marketing strategy.
