the current admin, the influence of some old Muslims?
Iran is already a pretty major power in the Middle East.
If you were educated on the matter, you would know that US-led Neo-con strategies led by many in W Bush admin was to make Israel THE unchallenged power in the region. To accomplish this both Iran and Iraq had to be severely weakened.
Iraq's military had mostly been wiped out by Poppy's efforts. It also had a leader easily demonized. It also existed in a flat desert. Easy as pie picking for US forces. Note that few other international players stepped up to help W as they had W's dad. Iran is a vast country with an educated population that yearns to be Western. It is also mountainous. US forces don't do mountains like we do flat land.
Easy pickings - and W had 911 to exploit. It is evident that US forces halted before chasing ObL into Bora Bora b/c if we got him then, the passion of US population to DO SOMETHING about 911. W wanted Saddam Hussein AND the opportunity to eliminate one of the two pillars preventing Israeli dominance in the region. So we GOT Iraq. Yahoo
Ever since there is the push led, surprise, surprise by conservative forces in Israel to destroy Iran.
I'm with Iran in this conflict, certainly not in all things, there are bad folks there. But the existence of those bad folks (all old and dying) does not justify a war.
The BEST move we could have with Iran is peace and establishment of diplomatic relations. Another friend in the Middle East. Those video clips you see are fleeting little demonstrations playing mostly to the camera. See build-up to hostage crisis for evidence of that.
