If he's wanting to be a leader moving towards goals, sometimes pushing and prodding and even haranguing and arguing may be considered effective strategies... in other situations being conciliatory and humble might be considered more conducive to helping move others towards acting in ways consistent with your goals.

People may disagree over tactics, or even goals, but I think we can all agree that it's probably not rational to think that someone should always act the same way to everyone in every situation, no?
