NU never "compromised" there enrollment standards. They did take academic redshirts, which was allowed by the NCAA, and many schools did the same...are you sure Mizzou didnt?
you can still today have academic redshirts, NU will have 1 or 2 this year. Its allowed by the NCAA, and again there are many other schools that are doing it...if you dont know what an acedemic redshirt is, I would suggest you look it up...a kid may meet grade point and act scores, but does have enough core classes, that athlete(any sport), can come to school, sit out of competition for 1 year, and as long as he/she gets his core class and maintains a certain gpa, he can participate the next year, and does not lose a year of eligibility.
NU has has the most wins in CFB over the last 50 years. That is not a result of having lower academic standards..academic standard are the same for all schools..
Big 8 was NEVER a mid major conference...it was a very good conferance back in the day, produced quite a few NC's NU, CU, OU...arguably back in day, Big 8 was more competitive then the SEC during that time.
