some of the mindless bilge (yes, it is off the mark) in this sorry excuse for a column deadline:

Ignoring for the moment the fact that "market fundamentalism", which he so despises, is what gives us jobs and is why half the world would move here in a second if they could, what the hell would he change if it was NOT made society's prime value? Neither he (nor you) have any idea. And what in the holy hell are people who are "atomized and unattached"? From WHAT? Market fundamentalism? Economic growth?
A "fundamental rethinking" to attain nirvana? Oh, so now repubs (conservatives) should start agreeing with democrats on policy? What else could he mean? Neither he (nor you) know.
So we need real-life communities which nurture good citizens and healthy attachments. Gee, about time someone came up with a solution to all this.
What useless trash, meaning nothing. Nothing.
