I would say, other than feasibility of changing from today to the future, my biggest opposition to private roads would be that it would be a potential waste of resources and an environmental issue. I don't see a need to have two competing roadways between so many points...that would require essentially destroying to parallel plots of land in so many ways. And if one of those go bankrupt, now you have a road just sitting there.
