on this issue and make up your own facts.
i will try one least time to explain it.
if you cross the border illegally and are caught in the interior you have broken the law, whether you are intending to retroactively claim asylum or not.
if you're not claiming asylum then your'e put into normal removal proceedings and it's a farily streamlined process. but while you're in this process the adults are separated from their families. this happened under Obama, Bush, Clinton. This is nothing specific to Trump. you know this so stop lying.
if you are claiming asylum after being caught in the interior you have in fact still broken the law b/c this is not the place to claim it. as has been stated numerous times, since we are talking about mostly central Americans, the place to do that was in Honduras, El Salvador or Guatemala OR in the first country outside of that; which is normally Mexico. They could claim asylum IN Mexico or with the US IN Mexico in one of 8 consulates or the embassy.
another aspect is minors from NON-bordering countries are automatically granted asylum hearings.
asylum requests are up exponentially. There are legitimate requests and there are illegitimate requests but the fact that only 20% of asylees are granted asylum should tell you how often the claims are legitimate.
and in no small part, the requests are up due to the Obama admin's catch and release policy. when roughly 65% of those put into asylum hearings don't bother to show up it makes you wonder about their true intentions and also it would have to make you question the rationale of the catch and release program overall.
the 100% prosecution has ZERO to do with asylees. it has everything to do with ordinary illegal entry.
the asylum process is backlogged due to the influx as well as the law that requires all minors from non-bordering states to get asylum hearings.
the process takes longer than 20 days. therefore if you are with minors you will be held separate from the minors. and if it goes longer than 20 days the minor must be released. typically to a relative or to a foster. the EO addresses this but it is still at odds with the Flores decree.
whether or not the EO is constutional is another argument despite whether you agree or don't agree with the principle.
to say Trump's policy exacerbated the issue is true. They should have thought it through and had the EO in place prior or streamlined the process to be finished within 20 days.
it's also true to say Obama's catch and release policy exacerbated the problem. his catch and release program has incentivized bringing minors and also unaccompanied minors.
it's also true that Obama separated children from parents at times there is plenty of evidence that this happened although curiously they never kept stats on it. is the scope the same as Trump? no, it isn't b/c they relied on the flawed catch and release program primarily. but not everyone accompanied by minors were caught and released.
Trump deserves some blame. he also deserves some credit for recognizing the problem whether that was b/c of pressure or not and trying to remedy it.
To blame Trump entirely is laughable. To not recognize that it happened, albeit to a lesser degree under other presidents, is disingenuous. to not recognize the huge disparity in the way the MSM, Hollywood, and the left in general has reacted vs how they reacted to similar issues under Obama is willful ignorance.
