mortgages with respectable mortgage companies they wouldn't have gotten caught with balloon mortgages and ARM's that quickly affected their monthly payments. The fact so many people walked away from homes, or had them repossessed, put a glut of homes on the market. As a result home prices tumbled and responsible home owners lost equity in their homes.
