But from Moeller's perspective, if Trump would agree to be questioned, he's aware that Trump may unwittingly provide confirmation of things that Moeller already knows and facilitate his investigation.

So, I wouldn't say that it's necessary for Moeller to talk to Trump, but if Trump's ego leads him to willingly participate, hey, have at it. Moeller has nothing to lose by asking.
