based on depth inside. The outside guys in a 3-4 are somewhat erroneously called DE's, as they are really DT's. You really do want a good 2-deep on the line for a rotation to keep guys fresh. IN a 4-3, you need 4 big beefcakes inside. In a 3-4, you need 5, and want 6. We've had some very good DT's but we've never really had 6 of them at once.
This year we do have a good number of inside beef to run a 3-4. However, the concern now centers around our LB depth. Not that we don't have guys, but there are always questions about turning DE's with their hands on the ground into OLB's in a 3-4.
Of the guys we have a decent read on, there are 3 DE's that look like they have a shot at OLB...
Williams, Turner, Anderson.
The current 2-deep at LB is:
Hall, Miller, Garrett, Brooks, Lee, Bledsoe
I would hesitate to predict anybody lower would impact this season.
That's 9 guys for 4 spots. Adequate volume, but as I mentioned, uncertainty about how they would all adjust/fit in a 3-4.
Personally, I favor the 3-4 and would like to see us try it.
