If Mike Alden or someone who knew Tony had been the AD at the time, he would almost certainly have been handed the job. And he would have earned it.

Whether he will prove to be the sort of coach who will make us wonder "what if" is something we won't know for a long time. Tennessee may be a harder program to revitalize than Missouri.
