to success than mere $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$?!
Get it through your thick skulls. Money isn't everything, especially to the Porters and other like-minded people. Is it a consideration? Yes, of course. But success is way more than money, and his parents have instilled a much more healthy and wholesome view of what is it to be a success, where money is never the most important consideration of what it means to be successful. A huge part of it has to do with identifying those who will bring you down if you keep their company, and knowing how to wisely avoid the pitfalls they will bring into your life.
Even at 19 or 20, they haven't learned all of the lessons, and are not fully prepared, contrary to your expert opinion about him not being able to benefit from staying another year. I don't presume to know he can't be successful, but neither do I assume he would do fine without a steady hand at his side. I believe he has strong enough character to handle every situation well, but we all have a weakness in some area. There are many stories of failure where a young athlete gets money for the first time, and the end is not good. I don't expect it to happen, but to act like it can't is unrealistic.
There is One person who knows how he will do. It sure isn't me or you.
