run rules them in 5 innings. Pretty amazing what Georgia is doing to Florida this weekend. Already won the series, going for the sweep today.
Floridas ace Barnhill lasted only 2 innings on Saturday, left in the 3rd inning with no outs, down 3-1, again had an inning extended when she was called for an illegal pitch; nice to see an umpire with some balls and integrity to finally start calling that on her.
Strange decision by Florida to replace Barnhill with their #4 pitcher who had only thrown 8 innings all year, instead of going to their #2 to try and keep the game close. Almost felt like they were conceding the game. Very strange. And Georgia of course blew the game open after that and ended up with the run rule after 5 innings.
Florida came in having given up only 14 total runs all year in their first 23 games, with 17/23 being shutouts. In just 2 games now Georgia has pounded their pitchers for 16 runs.
I was skeptical of Georgia coming in, due to a weak schedule and two close 1 run wins at home over Arkansas last weekend. Not skeptical any more after watching their hitters trash Barnhill and the rest of Floridas vaunted pitching staff. Their offense is for real, probably the best in the nation with their first 4 hitters in the line up all hitting well over .400, plus two ace type pitchers. They are looking now like the most complete team in a loaded SEC and a legitimate national championship contender.
