aren't adding up and you know the "victim" is lying, but can't prove it. so you make a deal with them to save time and effort. Something like we don't believe you're being truthful and we have enough evidence to charge you with X (hindering, lying, filing false report etc) but if you stop wasting everyone's time and just admit it we will just call it a day and close the investigation.
