The practice of redshirting means that at any given time the program will contain kids from five recruiting classes.
The NCAA allows 25 new scholarships a year and a maximum at any one time of 85. Five classes of 25 each would be 125 kids coming into the program over five years. The 85 max at any one time means there has to be substantial attrition. I.e. starting with 125 and getting down to 85 is 40 kids gone, almost one-third of the new scholarship players. Ten out of one class does not seem to be excessive. I suggest that losing half a class is not uncommon.
