Stokes was cleared by the NCAA to start practicing on January 4. The first practice he was eligible for was January 5.
He couldn't play until the SEC also cleared him. That happened on the date the above article was published.
Tennessee played Mississippi State a couple days later (a week after Stokes was eligible to start practicing), and Stokes did not play.
It will all come down to how quickly Porter Jr. can get into shape and how quickly he can get integrated into the team. The latter shouldn't take much time. He's been with the team this whole time, just not able to do full-contact stuff.
Game shape IMO shouldn't be a major issue, especially if they bring him back slowly.
