But there's only one gun store in mexico. it's on a military base in Mexico City. besides the physical barriers like metal detectors, you have to have prove your purpose to buy a gun, prove your income is legal, generally prove your fit to own one. there are limits on calibers & capacity. certainly no AR's or AK variants.
so sure, the attempt has been futile. the black market owns the gun trade there. Do the cops there care about gun control? who knows. are they able to enforce it? certainly doesn't seem so. I don't think it's a stretch to say their emphasis on a person's natural rights in regards to personal property and illegal search and seizures aren't the same as the majority of police in the US so pesky constitutional laws aren't the problem.
i'm not trying to find some argument or moral equivilency
but I see mexico as an example of a government that has forced its populace to rely on the government, and only the government as the only way to protect it's citizens.
