but the risk of circular reasoning, because people place value in it is what makes it valuable. why have people chosen gold and precious metals? they're widely desirable throughout cultures and throughout humanity and agreed upon as a medium of exchange, they have portability, they are fungible, and (unlike tulips or bed feathers) they are not perishable, they are not created out of thin air - they are a finite resource.
