A lawyer lady wrote a letter some years ago about her experience growing up in a typical rural area. She said that at her high school virtuall every boy that could drive drove a pickup to school and had a gun rack with a loaded rifle or shotgun or both in it.
She said that fights would occasionally occur between a couple of the boys, but no one ever thought about going to get a gun to settle the issue and no one ever worried about such a possibility.
Now we have all kinds of programs against bullying, metal detectors at the doors of the high schools, guards in the hallways and even occasionally drug dogs and random checks of lockers and we're having all sorts of shootings and mass murders.
What changed? Disarming the students even to the point of taking away pocket knives and nail clippers doesn't seem to be stemming the tide.
It isn't a weapons issue, it's a breakdown in morals issue.
