Sometimes it is the crime that gets you, sometimes it is the paranoid cover-up.

It appears there was a conspiracy with Russian forces, money laundering and obstruction of justice. The first two occur prior to Trump taking office, the third afterwards. All of them are crimes. Trump camp is trying to cover this up now. It will not work. Mueller is going to bring in the goods.
