The fact you used viewing population figures for the Cities of STL & LA shows precisely you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about at all, lol. (As the case routinely).
Really, really stupid stuff, man. Sorry, just the way it is!
TV programming ratings are based on DMAs. STL’s DMA is way more than the City of STL & is a Top 20 Market at #20.
LA is #2 & way more than 2 million or whatever the # was you pulled out of your butt. A rating point in LA = significantly more people in LA.
But, while a higher percentage of the DMA population in STL is watching the game & yet, more total people are watching in LA, it nonetheless clear & unequivocally portrays much less interest watching the game in LA.
Well, you say, so what?
The cost to reach that less interest in LA & the missed opportunity for engaged viewers in LA is, how do you say, costly.
Think about this, there is also exponentially less of STL’s DMA population not watching the game (uncaptured audience).
There is a real reason they don’t then just list Programming Ratings rankings by the total amount of people per DMA.
