There is just not that much room to make dramatic advances in the poll one you get down to the top 15-16 teams in the country.

No one in the top 10 lost this week, so there is no way we would jumped 5 teams and ended up ranked at least #10, based on one big upset. Even if we had beaten LSU.

Of the teams right above Mizzou, several of them lost in the last week though, so it will be interesting to see how far we move up in the new poll. We clearly won't stay at #15. One problem is, like polls in other sports, most people voting don't see any other games so they just go on wins and losses with no context. I bet 75% of the voters don't even know we lost to LSU with Sophie on the bench, they just saw the L.

#14 UCLA is the team right in front of us, and they also went 1-1 this week, and I'm not even sure we will pass them. They destroyed #16 Oregon State by 35 points, then yesterday lost a close game at home to #9 Oregon. Will be interesting to see if we move ahead of them or not. Maybe we get more credit for upsetting a top 10 team on our home court, where they couldn't.

#13 Maryland won both times, so we may not pass them either. Most voters like big shiney objects most recently in front of them though, so maybe we have a chance of jumping them.

#12 West Virginia did lose to unranked Kansas State earlier in the week, at home no less, and of course we beat KSU handily earlier in the year. So I could see us slipping ahead of them, we both have just 2 losses.

#11 Florida State lost yesterday on the road to a good Syracuse team, so they could drop a little too, could be vulnerable.

In the voting last week, we were very, very close to UCLA in points, but a considerable distance from the other 3 teams in front of us. I think after what happened this week the 5 teams 11-15 are going to be bunched up much closer in terms of poll points. My educated guess is the most favorable possibility for Mizzou is the new poll will look like this:

No change in the top 10 teams
11 Maryland
12 UCLA
13 Missouri
14 Florida State
15 West Virginia

And that's if enough poll voters are sophisticated enough to factor into the loss to LSU that we were without our best player. Wouldn't shock me though to see us edge out UCLA for #12.
