I can't help but draw parallels between the two. Haith takes over from moderately successful coach in Mike Anderson who had decent success after taking over from a disastrous situation inherited by Quin Snyder.

Couldn't we say that's very similar to Donald Trump taking over from Barack Obama.

Haith was a very unpopular choice, but makes a few tweaks to the offense and a senior-laden team to great heights in one year.

While we know Trump wanted to make drastic changes to the economy from Obama, he faced opposition from both political parties and is unable to pass any meaningful legislation to the end of the year. Thus, he limited to executive actions that reduce the regulatory framework. Certainly, this can be attributed to a growing economy, but these regulations mainly impact only a few sectors, such as oil/energy and banking. Stock market is certainly rising to new heights, but most people aren't employed by Fortune 500 companies, so the primary beneficiaries are the top 1 percent, though many Americans have seen a boost in their 401(k) and other investments. Then he has to use spin by ignoring that the same tax code that they said hampered growth actually didn't impede it in 2017.

Can't we say that Trump and Haith had similar success in their first year?

Haith is never directly implicated, but is hounded by whispers of recruiting violations from Miami and Mizzou.

Isn't that similar to Trump and the investigations of collusion? Certainly, we don't know the end result of the special counsel findings, but it's possible that Trump can get off just like Haith even if the majority of Americans thinks he's guilty.

While we know that Haith struggled at both Mizzou and Tulsa when he had to recruit his own players, we don't know what the future holds for Trump. We can't judge his economy until the tax cuts filter through somewhere between the second or third quarter of 2018.

Is this where Trump will prove my analogy to be false? Only the future will tell us that. In fact, I could see Trump having some success in 2018 as lower taxes will help the bottom line of many companies. Now will they reinvest those savings into investment spending or will they divert it back to shareholders and drive up their stock prices? If it's the former, then I could see a more broadbased economic recovery. If it's the latter, then it will be an uneven gain where the gains go to the elite while others struggle.

As of right now, it's true that jobs are growing and the unemployment rate is falling. However, wages remain stagnant and the plight of ordinary Americans are similar with the primary difference being a spike in health care costs.

Yes, I do believe Trump will achieve like Haith, but I could be wrong. In fact, I hope I'm wrong, but the signals tell me otherwise.

What do you think?
