to influence the Ukranian election

was to launder money to Ukranian candidates

who were pro-Russia and friendly to Putin

and Manafort was paid by the Russians to influence that election

on behalf of Putin and the Russians

so the notion that he conspired with the Russians

to influence the outcome of the US election

to get elect a president who was friendly to Putin and the Russians

seems plausible
