At the moment all is fine, but remember at midseason the issue was fire Odom immediately or let him finish out the year. Odom had to win five of his last six games to keep his job (and the assistants to keep theirs).
They may also be acutely aware that winning the last six games may not have have happened had Florida, Tennessee and Arkansas not been in the middle of or about to make coaching changes. If the situations had been normal, the Tigers might well have lost all three of those games.
Looking ahead, 2018 could be a winning season or it could be . . .. What if Lock leaves? The defense doesn't improve that much. The Tigers get buried at Alabama. Tennessee, Florida and Arkansas get their acts together.
Better to jump ship now to a job you'll have for several years than be forced to walk the plank in a year.
