Rep. Steve Scalise on Thursday scolded former Obama national security adviser Ben Rhodes for a tweet hoping for the upcoming “obits” of several prominent Republicans.
Mr. Rhodes was responding to a tweet by fellow former Obama adviser Dan Pfeiffer, who wrote, “I hope this is the photo they use on the front page of the Times on the day Trump is indicted.”
The tweet included a photo of President Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell giving a thumbs-up after Congress gave final approval to the $1.5 trillion tax package on Wednesday.
Mr. Rhodes responded, “And alongside the obits for Ryan, McConnell, and Pence.”
Mr. Scalise, a Louisiana Republican who survived an assassination attempt in June, chided Mr. Rhodes for his choice of words.
“You may want to reconsider your rhetoric,” the congressman wrote.
Mr. Rhodes has yet to respond, and his offending tweet remained active as of Thursday morning.
Mr. Scalise was shot along with four other people in June after a leftist gunman opened fire at a Republican congressional baseball practice in Virginia. The bullet pierced the congressman’s hip, leaving him in critical condition.
