This isn't hate Gary thread.
GP was the man. He is the man. He deserves a statue.
They did bump up their recruiting rankings a bit after the back-to-back titles, but good amount of that was due to some long-shot highly ranked players like Andy Bauer and the baseball player dude.
About 30 signed players from the '13-'15 classes never participated in the program or left early - none in that count for the NFL.
In fairness, this isn't all on Gary.
We were in transition having just entered the SEC.
We were trying to develop relationships in new areas.
We were unsure about how Texas recruits would like an SEC version of Mizzou - so we pulled back resources from that pipeline.
1) Bad luck with so many guys in these classes not working out.
2) Poor judgment on too many players, and poor judgment to pull out of Texas.
3) Bad timing with the move to the SEC. New relationships weren't strong, and old ones weren't as relevant anymore.
4) Continuing to "do what we do" and not upping our game by going BIG during a back-to-back run. Gary stayed within his comfort zone/ideology on recruits instead of making plays for better players.
