is an interesting and informative view re these people. It/they are a disaster waiting to happen, especially in Europe.

We’ve seen ISIS rooted out of Mosul( Iraq) , Harija ( Iraq) and most recently Raqqa ( Syria). Now as the ISIS Caliphate finally collapses are we ready to deal with those surviving ISIS Jihadist fighters from America and Europe who will try to return home ready and willing to strike terror in our hearts and minds? Out intel establishment and law enforcement to include the courts better be ready.

No one knows for sure, but at least 5,000 European ( and more than 200 American) Muslims joined ISIS in its hay day. Likewise no one knows how many of them are still alive, but chances are at least a couple thousand might be. Some might choose to remain in the Syria and Iraq, others could travel up to Afghanistan and still others will try to get back to EU countries -- Belgium, France, Germany , Netherlands, Denmark , Spain, etc A few might be taken into custody at various borders and some of those might ultimately tried for terror-related offenses, but most will most try to reenter “illegally” , much as we have seen the flood of “refugees” already do, and escape punitive measures as they re-assimilate ... Couple that with EUs prevailing idea that these extremists , if caught , can be deprogrammed much as you would do with a member of a cult... and what do you think?

As implied the continuing lack of coordination between intelligence and security agencies across European countries will enable many of these jihadists to slip back in largely unnoticed. We have seen several examples of critical intel slip ups ( stupidity ) in the last 2-3 years. This incompetence portends not only a serious risk across Europe , but to the American Homeland as these jihadists can quite easily make it here once they get back into European society . You will recall that Euro citizens enjoy visa-free entry to the US. Come on over!

I noticed that when asked about our own situation re returnees our esteemed former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said that most of the 40 Americans who have returned from the Islamic State by 2016 had done so for reasons "that don't relate to plotting". Oh so are we to believe these are normal Americans who came back because they were homesick after beheading a few Christians or less faithful Muslims? Not surprisingly Clapper with his Euro mentality probably does see these hard core Jihadists as everyday Americans coming back home because they love America and our fast food. BTW how many of us even know that 40 of them have returned ? Where are they now? Are these so-called “non-plotters” in prison getting over their malady? I don’ think so.

Whether or not these returning Jihadi fighters carry out attacks here in the short term or not , they are seen as great warriors within the Islamic community -- Islamist men of great credibility -- who can gather like minded people and recruit them to wage Jihadi attacks here or around the world for that matter.

I find it appalling that European states don’t agree on how these returning Jihadists should be treated . For example returnees to Denmark are placed in rehab programs that offer schooling, job training, and housing, among other benefits with the hope that they will join society as reformed Islamists. The EU’s Radicalization Awareness Network has put out mental health guidance for treating them. Shows a complete lack of understanding of who these people are. Not surprising that they tend to be seen as criminals and not literal Quranic Muslims whose duty is Jihad. Besides that, EU laws are vague regarding which potentially terror-related activities actually constitute a crime.

In contrast to EU , one might say that U.S. courts are better prepared for the challenges of convicting returnees, thanks in part to the fact that providing material support to a terrorist organization, which includes joining or attempting to join a terrorist group, is a crime. Plus our approach is a more punitive with longer sentences ( if they are actually tried) including life or the death penalty.

Also we need to be aware that our prisons are factories for Islamist indoctrination. Jihadis have openly stated that our prisons are the “ University of Jihad" where imprisoned Jihadists can teach the literals of the Quran and Hadith to die hard criminals and produce more and more militant Jihadis .

Thanks to the laxities in the EU ( maybe here too) this threat will be poignant not only there but here for years to come. Now it would be a very good thing if we could find some of these yahoos who have in fact might have a change of mind ( it occurs once in a blue moon) and recruit them to help locate and convict returning Jihadis. No doubt the FBI ( and the CIA ) are on top of that , eh?
