every right to say what he said. He did not do it on school grounds, at a school function or using school equipment.

So does the school have a right to punish him? This is where I am not comfortable with either answer.

Should schools police their students 24/7? I really don't want to see that happen. But his comments have a direct affect on the schools ability to maintain a peaceful academic environment. But where does this end? Do they suspend every kid who gets busted with pot? How about if the kid is charged with assault?

If you start policing off campus behavior where does it end?
